German Literature Month: November 2011

in German Literature Month, Readalong
As part of the “moving on to something new” which I mentioned in the last post, I’ve decided to participate in the German Literature Month (host post here) in November. But I’m setting myself a gentle personal target, not an unrealistic one that I’ll fail to reach and then feel bad about.
So I’m going to participate in the readalong of Effi Briest (which I had never heard of before), and I hope to read one other book by a German author, to be decided.
I’m wary of much German literature – isn’t it all about the War, and angst, and all very heavy? I’ll be delighted if I find that it’s not.

Thanks for the post and the link.
Your comment made me laugh because one of my blogger friends from France said exactly the same “I’m tired of German books, WWII, WWII or if not, then the author is long dead”.
It’s not like that at all. There is a lot of WWII literature, of course, but a lot is not.
Our current giveaway are short stories by Clemens Meyer. No WWII. And the author is still alive.
Maybe you would enjoy German crime?

Welcome, Eibhlin. Pleased to meet you! Grab hold of some Daniel Kehlmann if you can. Living author and not a WWII sentence in him.
